Peak Expeditions is Massachusetts most experienced climbing school and guide service. We’ve safely taught thousands of people to rock climb, ice climb and become mountaineers. All of our climbing trips and classes are led by professional guides who have been trained by the Professional Climbing Instructors of America and/or American Mountain Guides Association.
Our rock climbing programs focus on two general ideas: our outdoor rock climbing days will help you become a better climber, while our technical classes will help you become a safer climber. In addition to the trips and classes listed here, we are always happy to put together a custom trip for you. We can accommodate groups from one to 25 climbers.
All our trips are full days. When we go rock climbing we go all day! You’ll get a full day of instruction from an experienced, well-trained and supportive climbing guide. We provide all the climbing gear you’ll need, including shoes, harness, helmet, belay device.
We are professional guides. We’ve been teaching people like you from all over New England to climb since 1988. Whether you are with Austin, Sean, Chris or Becca, you are spending the day with a professionally trained guide and certified as a Wilderness First Responder.
Unlike some”guides”, we don’t contract out our climbing. We are your guides. Our focus is not only on taking you out and letting you climb, but setting up the safest climbing situations, and teaching you in a very patient, supportive and friendly manner. Besides safety, Peak guides are knowledgeable of the climbing scene, and eager to help you develop your climbing skills.
Also, our trips last all day long, not several hours like many other guide services and we offer the best pricing around for our members!
Climbing Trips & Courses
Beginner and Beyond Basics Rock Climbing & Ice Climbing Day Trips
Beginner Days: Our full day beginner climbing days are perfect for anyone who has never climbed before, or anyone with limited indoor climbing experience. We place an emphasis on teaching the belay (safety) system to the highest modern standard on beginner days.
Beyond Basics Days: Beyond basics climbing days are full days and appropriate for climbers of any skill level who can tie in and belay competently and confidently at the start of the day. We’ll focus on getting as many climbs in as possible during the day. Your Peak guide will give you tips and instruction throughout the day to coach you through the climbs.
Women’s Days: Women are excellent climbers, and our Women’s Climbing Days encourage women of all climbing skill levels to come together, climb together and support each other as you work through challenges and achieve your goals. These are full day trips.
Specialty Rock Climbing & Ice Climbing Courses
Gear and Anchor Class: Our Gear & Anchor Class prepares you to set up your own climbing anchors when you go climbing with your friends. In this class, you’ll learn/review knots, learn to place gear, and learn how to bring it all together to build top rope anchors in just about any situation.
Learn to Lead Class: The Learn to Lead Class gets you ready to climb on the “sharp end” of the rope. Class size is small to allow for great personal attention and feedback from our professional guides. It’s a full day of both “classroom style” learning and climbing.
Self-Rescue Class: The Self-Rescue Class should be taken by anyone who climbs outdoors, regardless of climbing skill. This class prepares you to deal with common situations found in outdoor climbing, like what to do if your partner falls or is injured.
Multi-Pitch Techniques Class: Spending a day in our multi-pitch class can save hours of climbing time, and the frustration of tangled ropes and cluttered belays when you are hundreds of feet off the ground. Learn to do it correctly and efficiently the first time!
Rock Climbing and Camping Weekends
Weekends: These are our favorites! After a great day of rock climbing, head back to camp where you can trade stories from your day with your Peak climbing partners and guides, gathered around the campfire. Fall asleep thinking of your climbing successes from today, and planning your challenges for tomorrow. Wake up to a great breakfast, then spend a second day on the rocks. That’s a weekend! Weekend Trips are offered to Rock Climb Massachusetts, Rock & Ice Climbing Vermont and New Hampshire.
